Capt.  Welfeld. All News of North Dakota’s accomplishments are greatly appreciated, of special interest rto me as a native of North Dakota , Bottineau,  from birth until I joined the Navy at age of 20 in 1962.  I served in the Submarine Service   for sixteen(16) years until being medically retired as a  Senior Chief MM in 1978 due to the effects of a TBI, stroke complicated by a cerebral hemorrhage..  I would have given anything to have been part of her PCU.  have enjoyed all the posts.  Was not able to make Commissioning ceremony  due to a medical event, but did manage to get the DVDs of it. Have one of the t-shirts  that I got from Chamber office when I was passing through Bismarck . .in spring of ’13. I also have acquired a very nice wooden plaque  copied from the ship’s crest that was made by a retired sub sailor in Az. that I met in April of this year when I was attending a Submarine Veterans gathering in Laughlin ,     .  I’m sure one of the biggest things is the fund raising but we ha I belong to one of the USSVI Bases here in Wis. and due to the fact that during WWII there were 28 submarines built  well.   by Manitowoc Shipbuilding that performed  well. I thought that seeing as how north Dakota  was able to get a boat named  for it that we should try for one for Wi.  I contacted Admiral Beers   who was the  Engineer on Abraham Lincoln SSBN602 back in ’74-75 when I was A-div LCPO to see if there were any unnamed Hull numbers.  is reply said there were several and gave a brief rundown on how to start the process .  Was wondering if you might be willing to give us some ideas how to go about finding people to serve on a committee  to start  organizing.  I  am sure the fundraising is probably one of the biggest challenges.      I apologize  for being so long winded., bad habit  I acquired after making 3 diesel boat Cold War patrols and 10 Polaris FBM Deterrent  Patrols.   Thank you for all the North Dakota news.                                                                              respectfully                                                                              William Woolcott                                                                               MMCS(SS)USNRET   From: USS North Dakota To: dieselvet@yahoo.com Sent: Tuesday, July 21, 2015 7:38 PM Subject: [New post] USS NORTH DAKOTA MAKES HISTORY #yiv0006674721 a:hover {color:red;}#yiv0006674721 a {text-decoration:none;color:#0088cc;}#yiv0006674721 a.yiv0006674721primaryactionlink:link, #yiv0006674721 a.yiv0006674721primaryactionlink:visited {background-color:#2585B2;color:#fff;}#yiv0006674721 a.yiv0006674721primaryactionlink:hover, #yiv0006674721 a.yiv0006674721primaryactionlink:active {background-color:#11729E;color:#fff;}#yiv0006674721 WordPress.com | bobwefald posted: “Our boat USS NORTH DAKOTA (SSN-784) made history during a cruise in the Mediterranean when it successfully launched and recovered and Underwater Unmanned Drone!  Here are a few links to stories.  This first one appeared in Stars and Stripes:http://www.s” | |
